Repair Plymouth card on Ubuntu 10.04 Nvidia (Alternative)
As
Ubunteros many already know, once you install the proprietary driver of our Nvidia card (it seems that the same thing happens with ATI) Plymouth breaks down completely, remaining in low resolution and with few colors. As
As data, Plymouth is the default from Ubuntu 10.04 and is responsible for displaying the startup screen (splash) after reboot.
network for circulating a solution that apparently has worked for many people, but unfortunately I do not: (
After much searching I found the solution in askubuntu.com :) and here I share with you.
1. Get the resolutions supported by GRUB.
When you turn on the PC, when you see the GRUB menu (where you can choose the kernel or the OS with which to boot), press the c to access the console mode.
already in the console issue
vbeinfo
Which display resolutions supported. The resolutions are displayed in a format that includes the depth of color, for example 1024x768x32.
is possible that the decision to use within Ubuntu is not supported for use with Plymouth. In this case you should choose several to try what works best, yes, they should be color depth to 32 colors look good. Ubuntu resolution will not change, which would be different is to Plymouth. I suggest you go to write down the test.
Once you have the resolutions, press Esc to return and enter Ubuntu.
Note: If you do not see the GRUB menu, hold down the Shift key while booting the PC, it should appear.
2. Edit / etc / default / grub
Open a terminal and run:
sudo gedit / etc / default / grub
opens text editor. Find the following line and add what is in bold:
# GRUB_GFXMODE = 800x600
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX = 1024x768x32
Obviously you change the resolution that your ready to use.
Save and close the text editor.
3. Run the following in terminal.
echo framebuffer = y " save and close.
sudo update-grub
This I tried on two PCs with Nvidia card, in 1366x768x32 resolution was not supported, so in the end and is used 800x600x32 quite well. The other was in 1024x768x32 resolution in both and everything looks fine.
I hope they work.
Greetings.
